Hai Van Pass is located on the administrative boundary between Da Nang City and Thua Thien Hue Province. This is a very important defensive structure built during the Nguyen Dynasty in 1862. To this day, the structure has been classified by the state as a national historical and architectural monument.

Located at the top of Hai Van Pass, this first fortress is not only beautiful in the season of blooming flowers but also majestic and grand under the golden sun of June. With its location in the Central South region, Hai Van Pass also has two distinct seasons: Dry and Rainy.
There have been many times when the weather in this area is influenced by the Central Highlands, so the sun and rain can be quite unpredictable. Therefore, the best time for you to visit the monument is during the dry season from March to August. At this time, the weather is clear, with little rain, making for a comfortable journey for visitors.
A small suggestion is that you can start your trip early in the morning around 4-5 AM or in the late afternoon after 5 PM to catch the sunrise or sunset right on the pass. Exploring Hai Van Pass at this time will make the scenery even more beautiful.

Hai Van Pass is open to visitors all day and completely free. If you are planning a trip to Hue soon and want to visit this monument, you can choose a motorbike or car for an interesting experience.
Starting your journey from the Imperial City of Hue, you can take the An Duong Vuong - Nguyen Tat Thanh route to reach Huong Thuy commune. Then follow National Highway 1A for about 60km, turn left at CF Binh Chau, and move a short distance more to reach the first fortress.
